Bakersfield College Student Housing
Bakersfield College recognized the need for housing among its student population.
Client: Kern Community College District
Market: Higher Education
Discipline: Architecture + Interiors
Project Area: 99,455 sq. ft.
Bakersfield College recognized the need for housing among its student population, particularly for emancipated former foster care students, veteran students, and those who are currently experiencing or may soon face homelessness.
To make the most of the space available, the Bakersfield College Student Housing project uses the changes in terrain to maximize the number of units. The terrain also creates different areas for activities such as tailgating, a yoga deck, and outdoor gatherings. The building has various areas for student engagement, including a rec room, study spaces, and a large mail room. The housing facility offers different types of units on each floor with student living rooms located throughout. The exterior of the building uses a mix of materials to highlight the main entrances.
