Sustainability and next generation learning
With a renewed focus on sustainability and next generation learning applications, Fort Bend ISD (FBISD) was seeking a more unique design for the new elementary school, James C. Neill Elementary School. The Library Media centered in the heart of campus, features collaborative working spaces spread throughout the space as well as a MakerSpace included for hands-on creativity. Each grade level branches off this centralized collaboration area into its own wing with added circulation space. Demonstration tools and building features include rainwater cisterns, outdoor planters, learning play structures, and educational kiosks to illustrate elements of the building’s performance and sustainable design to occupants and visitors.
The Harvest Green community surrounding the school focuses on encouraging residents to make meaningful connections to the surrounding environment. It is a unique opportunity to showcase sustainable practices through design features. These features also allow the campus to cater to various learning styles through the combination of outdoor learning, hands on experiences, sustainability, group collaboration, and more.
