Restoring one of the oldest schools in the county

Created to answer the area’s workforce development needs, GRCCA is a joint venture between high schools and colleges across the region. It is located in the former Spalding High School, built in 1945. The school system recognized the architectural significance of restoring one of the oldest schools in the county. The project won first place in the Associated General Contractors 2018 Build Georgia Awards.

For over 70 years, the community has admired the 1945 Spalding High School building. Most longtime local residents attended the school. Therefore, the chief design challenge of this major renovation was to maintain the integrity of the historical structures while meeting the needs of 21st-century educational programs. The programming phase included close consultation with GRCCA’s Board of Directors. The fully renovated facility includes a meeting hall in the 1930s gymnasium and a new colonnade and bus shelter, which complete the spacious courtyard. The GRCCA offers college courses for both high school and college credits to students from several counties. Pathways for students include Early College Essentials, Aviation, Therapeutic Services/Healthcare, Culinary Arts, Mechatronics, Public Safety, Teaching as a Profession, and Welding.
