A Purpose-Built Home for Women’s Lacrosse
The Florida State University Women’s Lacrosse Complex establishes a new standard for collegiate lacrosse facilities. Designed exclusively for women’s lacrosse, the venue is only the second stand-alone facility of its kind in the nation and reflects Florida State’s commitment to providing championship caliber environments for student athletes, coaches, and fans.
PBK partnered with Florida State Athletics to develop both the master plan and facility design, creating a venue that not only serves the immediate needs of the lacrosse program but also supports the university’s long-term vision for athletic growth. Early planning efforts evaluated the broader athletics district, positioning the project as a catalyst for future development across campus.
Designed Around the Landscape
Set within a park like environment shaded by mature oak trees, the complex takes full advantage of the site’s natural topography to create a memorable arrival experience. Visitors descend into the venue, revealing a synthetic turf competition field and seating bowl seamlessly integrated into the hillside.
This site responsive approach allowed the design team to embed a 500-seat grandstand directly into the slope while incorporating grass berm seating that expands capacity to more than 2,000 spectators for marquee matchups and championship events. A prominent video scoreboard anchors the venue and enhances the game day atmosphere.
A Complete Environment for Competition and Development
Beyond the field of play, the complex was designed to support every aspect of the student athlete experience. The team clubhouse serves as the program’s home base and includes dedicated locker rooms, a team lounge, sports medicine space, equipment storage, and a specialized lacrosse mudroom with custom stick storage.
A covered outdoor terrace extends from the team lounge, providing shaded gathering space with direct views of the field. This connection between team spaces and competition areas strengthens program culture while creating an environment that supports collaboration, recovery, and daily team operations.
Elevated Amenities for Fans and Donors
The venue’s press box building enhances both event operations and spectator comfort. The facility includes concessions, restrooms, and open-air suite seating that provides premium viewing opportunities for donors, alumni, and special guests.
These amenities allow the complex to accommodate both regular season competition and larger championship events while delivering a first-class experience for visitors.
Planned for Future Growth
The master plan was developed with flexibility and expansion in mind. Future phases include a dedicated wall ball training facility that will support skill development, strength and conditioning activities, team training, and special events. Additional storage and support spaces will further enhance the program’s operational capabilities as it continues to grow.
Fast Tracked Delivery, Lasting Impact
The Women’s Lacrosse Complex was delivered through an accelerated design and construction process that required close collaboration between the university, design team, and construction partners. Utilizing phased permitting and a CMAR delivery approach, design was completed in just six months, a playable field was delivered within five months of groundbreaking, and the facility hosted its first competition only seven months after construction began.
Today, the complex stands as a premier example of lacrosse facility design, collegiate sports architecture, athletic master planning, and student athlete focused facility development. Purpose-built for competition and designed for future growth, the venue provides Florida State Women’s Lacrosse with a distinctive home that supports performance, recruiting, and long-term program success.
