Blending Tradition and Innovation in Track & Field
The Texas A&M University Indoor Track Stadium is a 130,500 square foot intimate venue for indoor track events. While the venue is a hybrid structure consisting of a pre-engineered steel frame and PVC coated fabric skin, the base of the structure is surrounded by a traditional masonry wall, providing contextual connections to the nearby EB Cushing Track & Field Stadium. The two structures sit side by side separated only by the outdoor warmup area and outdoor throwing events area. The structures are designed to be complimentary to one another, supporting the great track and field history at Texas A&M.
The spectator seats are arranged in a horseshoe configuration around the 200m fixed bank oval. This affords spectators a choice of viewing based on their interest. The field events are located within the oval. The spectator circulation and seats are elevated above the event surface so that the circulation of athletes in and around the oval impede the sightlines of the spectators as little as possible. The throwing events are located at the open end of the horseshoe with dedicated spectator seating at the edge of the cage safety netting. The videoboard for replay and scoring is located between the oval and the throws area.
