Collin College Public Safety Training Center

Client: Collin College
Market: Higher Education
Discipline: Architecture + Interiors, Facility Planning + Consulting
Project Area: 118,000 sq. ft.

The Public Safety Training Center Campus provides a consolidated training facility for fire and public safety and is the newest campus in the Collin College system. The property is located in McKinney, Texas northeast of the Central Park Campus. The project relocated the police and fire science programs, currently located at Central Park, to a new state-of-the-art facility that is unparalleled in Collin County. The building consists of two wings that are joined by an atrium that is filled with light and provides views to all the adjacent training activities. It is flanked by native landscaping on all sides. The campus was designed for “hands-on training” to handle real-life emergency situations. The ‘city block’ within the training facility simulates real-life situations that public safety professionals have to deal with, on a daily basis. Similarly simulating facilities complete with the fire props are provided via a mock house, warehouse, and apartment building. A flashing container on-site simulates overhead fires. Here, the future professionals can condition and learn under the watchful eyes of experienced trainers. A state-of-the-art gun range is also a part of this campus.
“Throughout the design and construction process, I was impressed with PBK’s culture of leadership and collaboration. PBK’s team demonstrated a strong ability to work across the lines with the multiple college and city of McKinney user groups and construction teams...Without reservation, it is my honor to recommend PBK as an esteemed and amicable architecture firm.”
