Preparing for the future, honoring tradition

Over the past two decades, Brazoria County has undergone remarkable growth, stretching from Pearland in the north to Angleton in the south. Angleton ISD has reaped the benefits of this growth, enjoying low taxes, minimal crime rates, and an excellent school district rating, which has contributed to a surge in its student population. To preserve the small-town unity and cater to the needs of the region’s growing industries, Angleton ISD embarked on an initiative to expand student capacity and upgrade its educational facilities. This vision materialized into the construction of a state-of-the-art Career, Technology, and Engineering Center seamlessly integrated with the existing high school campus.

In 2019, Angleton ISD launched a Master Planning process to address the challenges posed by rapid growth. The key objectives included maintaining a unified high school town, enhancing the current high school’s capacity, and creating modern facilities for career and technology programs. The project’s design team prioritized the inclusion of specialized programs such as Welding and Agriculture in the new CTE facility. The expansion of the existing high school involved transforming former career and technology spaces into 27 innovative CORE classrooms.

A World of New Opportunities

The Angleton Career, Technology, and Engineering (CTE) Center stands as a beacon of opportunity, bridging education and employment to empower both students and the community. With a focus on preparing students for the workforce, the CTE program has a profound impact on graduation rates and post-program placement. Remarkably, 95% of Angleton High School students are enrolled in CTE courses, and despite half being at-risk or economically disadvantaged, an impressive 96% of these students graduate successfully.

The center offers a diverse range of certification programs, including Welding, Agriculture, IT, Robotics, Health Sciences, Vet Tech, Cosmetology, A/V and Digital Design, ROTC, and Education. Notably, the Welding program, a flagship initiative, has produced 135 certified students, with graduates entering the workforce with a base average salary of $41,000.

Community engagement is at the heart of the CTE Center’s mission. Programs like Vet Tech, Cosmetology, and Culinary Arts are open to the public, resembling commercial storefronts that offer services such as haircuts, pet check-ups, and culinary courses. Profits generated from these services are reinvested into updating program equipment and school supplies, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.

The CTE Center’s design fosters collaboration and community interaction, with main street commons serving as gathering spaces for events and showcasing student skills. The thoughtful integration of vocational and academic education emphasizes the importance of producing workforce-ready graduates. The center’s holistic approach not only enriches educational experiences but also strengthens the local economy by providing businesses with skilled, certified professionals. Through accessible services and innovative programs, the Angleton CTE Center is paving the way for a brighter future for its students and the community at large.
