Connecting Learning and Discovery
The 51,629-square-foot Advanced Technology Center at Bates Technical College brings STEM-focused programs and broadcast technologies together in an environment designed to encourage exploration, collaboration and career preparation. The facility supports students pursuing technical and higher education while creating opportunities for faculty, students and industry partners to connect through shared projects and learning experiences.
A Collaborative Learning Environment
Instructional spaces, project areas and informal gathering places are intentionally connected to encourage interaction among students and faculty. Transparent walls and open circulation make learning visible throughout the building, while strategically placed skylights bring natural light through both levels. These design strategies support varied teaching methods and create opportunities for students to learn from one another through hands-on projects, discussion and experimentation.
Flexible Spaces for Campus and Community
A multipurpose black box room accommodates a range of activities and public gatherings. An oversized garage door opens directly to the main entry, allowing the space to connect with the lobby and expand the area available for larger events. Suspended walkways along the upper level provide balcony-style viewing, creating additional opportunities for audiences to engage with activities below.
Inspiring Future Technical Professionals
By making technology, student projects and instructional activities visible, the Advanced Technology Center creates an approachable environment for prospective students and industry partners. Shared learning areas foster a sense of community while helping students envision themselves in STEM and technical fields, including disciplines where women and minority students have historically been underrepresented.
