Mandy Freeland
Mandy Freeland, AIA, is a Principal who is passionate about designing educational environments that support students, educators, and the broader communities they serve. With experience spanning K–12 education, mixed-use developments, commercial projects, and multifamily housing, Mandy approaches design with a focus on collaboration, community impact, and long-term value.
Prior to joining PBK in 2025, Mandy founded the first woman-owned architecture firm in Bakersfield, California, where she built a practice grounded in community-centered design and a strong commitment to mentorship and professional development.
Mandy’s connection to educational environments extends beyond design. She teaches architecture at her alma mater, mentoring students as they explore the profession through hands-on learning and architectural sketching. She has also worked as a substitute teacher in K–12 classrooms, giving her a firsthand understanding of how educators and students interact with learning spaces. This experience provides valuable perspective when collaborating with school districts and administrators to create environments that truly support teaching and learning.
A dedicated leader within The American Institute of Architects, Mandy has served in multiple leadership roles and is a strong advocate for emerging professionals, mentorship, and empowering architects early in their careers. Her work also focuses on supporting parents in architecture and fostering firm cultures that enable professionals to thrive.
Mandy is recognized as a Champion for Better Communities through AIA, reflecting her belief that architecture plays a critical role in shaping resilient and thriving communities. Her work emphasizes a comprehensive approach to design—one that considers the interconnected needs of schools, neighborhoods, families, and civic life.
Through her leadership, teaching, and professional service, Mandy remains committed to strengthening both the built environment and the architectural profession itself.
