The STEM Education Center on the A&M System RELLIS Campus will be located southeast of the intersection of RELLIS Parkway and Bryan Road and contain approximately 60,000 GSF on three (3) levels. The building will be designed as an “academic makerspace/fabrication laboratory” to foster innovation, creativity, and collaborative learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related education disciplines. The facility will intentionally be a shared space for students pursuing degrees at the RELLIS Campus through its ten (10) A&M System universities, currently offering twenty-seven different degrees for 2,500 enrolled students. The facility will also make it possible for students to collaborate directly with industry professionals and System Engineering agencies. This facility will be equipped with emerging high-tech hardware that can enable creative engineering challenges. These challenges will prepare students for future careers by allowing them to program their own interactive virtual reality games, build artificial intelligence robotic devices, and design new types of wearable tech powered by the Internet of Things, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, digital software systems, data analytics, and electronic stations.
